Must See:

Stroll through Hasselt’s serene Japanese Garden, the largest of its kind in Europe, just 1km from Holiday Inn Hasselt. Cherry trees, trickling waterfalls and ponds teeming with carp add an eastern aura to the Flemish city. Entry is free for kids under 12.

Must Do:

Get behind the wheel of a racing car to try your hand at high-octane track driving at Circuit Zolder, a former Formula 1 venue 10km from Holiday Inn Hasselt. Exciting spectator events include cyclo-cross, Aston Martin rallies and motorbike racing.

What’s New:

Nearby Demerstraat is Hasselt’s shopping mecca. Chic boutiques, perfumeries and shoe shops line this long, pedestrianised shopping street. For designer Belgian goods head for Kapelstraat and choose Grote Markt for flower stalls and al fresco cafes.

Don’t Go Home Without:

Going wild at Plopsa Indoor theme park, 1.5km from the Holiday Inn Hasselt. Rides like the 90km-per-hour rollercoaster and the SuperSplash pirate ship get pulses racing. Meet the gnomes in Plop’s Woods and dodge the Dancing Fountains in Village Square.

Pick up a tourist map from Holiday Inn Hasselt’s Front Desk and seek out Hasselt’s museums. Try Modemuseum for flamboyant fashions and the Jenever Museum for local juniper gin. See traditional, rustic Flemish houses at Bokrijk Open Air Museum, 7km away.
